Trojans pick up two wins in basketball
The East Central Trojans picked up a pair of victories in boys varsity basketball action over the past weekend.
The Trojans needed overtime to beat South Ripley and notched an eight point win over conference rival South Dearborn.
Brandon Callahan scored 14 points and pulled down a team high 10 rebounds to lead the Trojans past the Knights 37-29.
After jumping out to a 9-5 lead in the first quarter, East Central fell behind 22-19 by halftime.
The game was tied at 26-26 at the end of the third quarter to set up a possible exciting finish.
The Trojans did their best to keep the suspense to a minimum by holding the Knights to only three points over the final eight minutes.
In addition to Callahan’s 14 points, Kyle Pettit added six, while Drew Knigga, Seth Daugherty and Chris Yost each chipped in four.
South Dearborn was led in scoring by Adam Wheat with nine points and Garrett Rollins with eight.
The Trojans outscored the South Ripley Raiders 10-5 in overtime to post a 50-45 win on Friday night.
Bryson Lail scored five of the team’s 10 points in the extra session to lead the Trojans to victory.
Lail finished with a game-high 23 points and four assists.
Kyle Pettit hit four 3-pointers in the second half and finished with 14 points, while Callahan had nine.
The Raiders were led in scoring by Trent Tucker with 13 points and Michael Fear with 11. Chris Miller was third on the team with nine points.
East Central improved to 2-1 on the season and 1- in the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference.
